Frequently Asked Questions
What is coaching?
Defined by ICF: “Partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.”
I like to say that a life coach is a partner that helps you reach your highest and best self. We serve as a mirror to reflect back what you are unable to see in yourself and recognize what is in the way of reaching your goals. You actually just might have the answers to everything you need and seek. I do this by coaching around your commitments and help you to get out of your own way, so you’re able to make your dreams come true.⠀
What is the difference between coaching & therapy?
The truth is, this is deeply personal and varies for every person. But, as someone who has both a therapist and a coach, I can share my experience! ⠀
⠀
The biggest difference is that typically coaching is a future based conversation. While the past certainly comes up, and we spend some time looking at how the past could be impacting the future, we don’t stay here long. We focus on projects and future goals. A coach is not trained to help exclusively with mental health (such as anxiety or depression). Although it does come up, these are things that I support my client in to get the resources that they need. We talk about therapy, and how certain topics are better served there. Therapy could be thought of more as healing from the past, and coaching is looking into the future to where you want to be.
Are you a wedding planner or consultant?
No, I am not a wedding planner or consultant, I am a life coach. I will not give you advice or tell you what to do. I will partner with you to look at what’s in the way of your dream life and create stuctures and tools around this.
Is the session confidential?
I hold myself to the highest ethical standard of confidentiality. Occasionally as I am growing my practice and certification level, I may ask to record sessions. This will only be done with your agreement. Sessions will be shared only with those who hold themselves to the same confidentiality standards.
I hold myself as a mandated reporter and would only disclose information about our sessions for the following reasons.
You report imminent suicidal or homicidal ideation.
You report abuse or neglect of a child, dependent or older adult.
Your coach is ordered by a court of law to do so.
